7 form builders for HK and Asia freelancers (with WhatsApp support)

Most "best form builder" lists are written from a US perspective. They rank Typeform, Jotform, and Wufoo for a market where email is still the default channel, branding is in English only, and WhatsApp barely registers.

That's not how freelancers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, or the Philippines actually work. Here, WhatsApp is where the inquiry happens. The client DMs you. You send a link. They expect to come back to a WhatsApp thread when they're done. If your form builder doesn't understand that, you're losing leads to friction.

This is the list I'd hand a friend in Hong Kong asking what to use. Seven tools, ranked by how well they fit the Asia / SEA freelancer reality. WhatsApp support is the table stakes — I cut tools that don't have it.

2. WhatsForm — built around WhatsApp, fair value at SMB scale

WhatsForm is the closest competitor in this category. They're more enterprise-leaning than Readmyquote, but if you're running a real small business (2-5 employees, payment-in-form, multi-language requirements), they're a strong fit.

Pricing: $12/month starting, 14-day trial only — no permanent free plan.

Strength: built-in Stripe / PayPal / Razorpay integration. If you want clients to pay a deposit when they submit the inquiry, WhatsForm does this natively and Readmyquote doesn't.

Weakness for solo freelancers: the lowest plan limits you to 100 submissions, which a freelancer with a single viral post can hit in a weekend. The price-per-form is fine; the cap math gets tight.

3. Tally — generous free, accept the watermark

Tally doesn't have native WhatsApp integration, but the free plan is the most generous in the industry — unlimited forms, unlimited responses, most field types. You add WhatsApp by dropping a button on the thank-you page that links to wa.me/[your-number]?text=Hi.

Free: unlimited (with Tally branding) Pro: $29/month to remove branding

The thing to know is that Tally's free plan puts a "Made with Tally" footer on every form. For B2B and creative work in Hong Kong, this hurts conversion — clients reading on phone see the watermark and the form feels less professional. If you're going to use Tally seriously, you're paying $29/month, at which point you're paying Typeform-level prices for a Typeform-alternative.

Use Tally for: internal team forms, hobby surveys, anything where "Made with Tally" doesn't matter.

4. Fillout — best Notion / Airtable hook

Fillout is the form-to-database specialist. If your freelance ops are built on Notion (which a lot of HK / Taiwan designers and consultants use), Fillout's Notion integration is the most polished in the category.

Free: 1,000 responses/month Pro: $15/month

WhatsApp integration is via the same manual wa.me trick as Tally — works fine, isn't elegant. If you're already a Notion power user and your form's job is to populate a database row, this is the tool. If your form's job is to get a client into a WhatsApp chat with you, Readmyquote or WhatsForm fit better.

5. Walla — Hong Kong PDPO compliance built in

Walla is the Hong Kong-built option. Their core selling point is PDPO (Personal Data Privacy Ordinance) compliance built in by default, plus support documentation in Traditional Chinese.

Pricing: custom quote — they sell to SMBs and enterprises, not solo freelancers.

Best for

• HK businesses where compliance with local data privacy law is a legal requirement
• B2B in regulated industries (legal, healthcare, finance)
• Companies that want a local vendor for procurement reasons

For the average solo freelancer, the compliance overhead is overkill — Readmyquote, WhatsForm, and Tally all handle the basic PDPO requirements (clear data use, opt-in consent, deletion on request) as long as you fill in your privacy policy correctly. Walla matters when "Hong Kong-based vendor with PDPO assurance in writing" is a procurement requirement.

6. Atpicco — Malaysia-built, WhatsApp-native

Atpicco is a Malaysian tool built for the same SEA freelancer-and-SMB market as Readmyquote. They have a free tier and a strong focus on WhatsApp-first flows.

Best for

• Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore-based freelancers
• Anyone who wants a regional tool with Malay / Bahasa / Chinese language support
• Solopreneurs okay with a smaller, newer tool

The reason it's #6 and not higher is the product is younger and the templates feel less polished than the top of the list. If you're in Malaysia specifically, it's worth a look as a local-market alternative.

7. Formware — free, fine for side projects

Formware is the free / freemium option for low-stakes use. Native WhatsApp support, generous free tier, smaller community.

Best for

• Side projects
• Testing whether a WhatsApp form helps your business before paying anything
• Hobby use, one-off campaigns

If you've used Tally free and outgrown it but don't want to pay yet, Formware is the next step.

What I'd actually pick for common HK / Asia scenarios

Wedding photographer in HK, 30-60 inquiries/month, Instagram-driven Readmyquote Pro ($9/mo). The WhatsApp tap-to-message on the thank-you screen converts noticeably better than email-only, and the price is the cheapest in the category.

Designer / illustrator in Taipei, 5-20 inquiries/month, mixed channels Readmyquote free (30 subs/mo handles it). Upgrade to Pro only when you hit the cap consistently.

Freelance consultant in Singapore, inquiries via LinkedIn and WhatsApp, want payment-in-form WhatsForm ($12/mo). The payment integration justifies the small price premium over Readmyquote.

HK B2B selling to corporates that ask about PDPO Walla. Get the procurement clearance done once and forget about it.

Makeup artist / event planner in Malaysia / Indonesia Atpicco for local market, Readmyquote for international clients. Run both for a quarter, see which one converts your audience better.

Tutor / hobby project, no budget at all Tally free if you can accept the watermark, Formware free if you can't.

The thing most lists get wrong

Most "best form builder for [region]" articles rank tools by feature count. That's the wrong axis. The right axis for HK / Asia freelancers is:

1. How fast is the lead-to-WhatsApp path? (taps after submit)
2. Does the public form look like a real local business made it? (template quality)
3. What's the actual all-in monthly cost after you remove vendor branding? (real price, not list price)

Run a tool through those three questions and the shortlist collapses quickly. Half the "best of" picks fall away because they're either branded on free or priced for US enterprises.

Quick questions HK / Asia freelancers ask

Do any of these support Traditional Chinese form labels? Readmyquote, WhatsForm, Tally, Fillout all let you write form questions in any language — they don't translate them, but they render Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai correctly. The dashboard / admin UIs are mostly English on all of them.

What about PDPO in HK? PDPO compliance is mostly about how you use the data (consent, retention, deletion) rather than which tool stores it. Any of these tools can be configured to meet PDPO as long as your privacy policy is correct. Walla makes the compliance argument explicit and provides documentation; the others leave it to you.

Singapore PDPA and EU GDPR? Same as above — tool-agnostic, mostly a privacy-policy and consent-flow problem. If you have EU traffic, double-check that your chosen tool has a Data Processing Addendum (DPA) available — Tally, Fillout, Typeform have these; smaller tools may not.

Can I use Hong Kong dollars or Singapore dollars for pricing display? Readmyquote and WhatsForm both bill in USD. There's no clean local-currency option in this price range — you'll see the foreign transaction fee from your card issuer (~1-2%).

Which one syncs to a HK accounting tool like Xero / QuickBooks? None natively in this price range. You'd export CSV and import, or use Zapier as a bridge.

Can clients pay deposits via FPS (Hong Kong) or PayNow (Singapore)? Not directly in any of these tools. WhatsForm supports Stripe/PayPal/Razorpay for international payment; for local rails you'd link to a separate payment page after the form submits.
